Physically there are many benefits to having regular massages during pregnancy; helping to improve your comfort by reducing swelling and water retention, relaxing sore, achy hips and eases tension affecting the shoulders and neck to name a few.
What does pregnancy massage entail?
Massage has been demonstarted to be an effective therapy during pregnancy, a 2016 Australian study into pregnancy related musculo-skeletal compliants found that during their pregnancy:
39.5% women experienced back pain,
12.4% experienced neck pain,
16.3% women experienced pelvic pain.
Massage involves pressure of the body's soft tissues. It is commonly used to help relax tense muscles and to soothe and calm the individual. Massage may help to relieve pain by assisting with relaxation through obstructing sensory nerve communication of the pain pathways and by improving blood flow and oxygenation of tissues
Pregnancy massage does not involve massage of your tummy.
Checkout our massage packages below to see what may suit your needs, commonly we find we get requests for neck, shoulders and upper body along with lower back hips and legs.
Specialist pregnancy massage table
"Lay comfortably and safely on your tummy"
A massage lying comfortably and safely on your tummy!
The clinic team has the training and use of our specialised pregnancy massage couch, allowing the mum-to-be to comfortably lie on her tummy, by having a bench with an opening in the middle section.
This allows our massage therapist to effectively massage sore neck, shoulders and back, so you will finally get to enjoy the familiarity of lying face down.
Your tummy is not able to hang through the opening due to a strong elastic flexible mesh sling in the opening, which braces and supports the abdomen. This means there is very little pressure on the lower back, pelvic joints.
The lower back is not placed under any undue pressure, whatever stage of pregnancy your at, blankets and towels are used to make you comfortable and feeling fully supported.
The relief of being able to lie in a position you thought wasn’t possible is a wonderful release; you will not want to get up!
